Citizens Against New Taxes urges voting NO on the 1/4 cent sales tax increase!
Citizens Against New Taxes (CANT) is a group of passionate taxfighters. CANT was started in 1998 by Margaret Baird, who is the Chairman of CANT. Margaret is a retired CPA and was a well-known taxfighter in Texas for many years prior to her returning home to Metairie a number of years ago. Vice-Chairman Margie Seemann is a retired computer programmer/mathematician. CANT was instrumental in defeating a ½-cent sales tax in 2002. However, we have been relatively inactive for the last few years, since we have had no issues about which we felt strongly enough to vigorously oppose. We are, however, strongly opposed to the ¼-cent sales tax which was originally put on the April 4th ballot, but was temporarily removed and may placed on the ballot again in the Fall. CANT has therefore been mobilized and energized, and we have geared up to oppose this tax. CANT's logo is "Taxpayers' Watchdog," a dog with a wad of dollar bills in his mouth and surrounded by stacks of money, which he is guarding. This logo represents the purpose of CANT--guarding the taxpayer's money. |
